House dance is more than steps - it’s a conversation between your body, the music, and the people around you.
This class is an invitation to slow down, get curious, and develop a deeper understanding of movement through the lens of house dance culture. Rather than memorizing choreography, you’ll explore why movements work, how they connect, and how to make them your own.
This class centers intention, exploration, and respect for the roots of house dance, creating a supportive space to ask questions, play, and expand what dance means to you - both on and off the floor.
What we’ll focus on
Fundamental house dance principles
Social dance interaction and community dynamics
Cultural etiquette and social literacy within house dance
Body awareness and self-expression
Janu’s classes are a great fit if you:
Are a beginner dancer (between 0-3 years of experience)
Are curious about house dance and its culture
Potentially know some steps, but struggle to connect them fluidly
Want to explore the relationship between your body and movement
Care more about understanding movement than copying it
Enjoy asking questions and feel mentally ready to learn in a physical movement environment
Are ready to challenge yourself, grow, and expand creatively
Want to have fun while learning in a thoughtful way

There is a mixture of free and paid street parking surrounding the studio, and a paid lot right across the street.
This is a beginner level class, geared toward anyone who has zero-6 months of hooping experience. Learn basic moves, transitions, and fundamentals of flow art that will help you unlock your newest dance obsession.
Hoop dancing is much more than just letting it circle around your waist - in fact, we won’t be waist hooping at all in this class.
As the name suggests, we will cover how to truly dance with your hoop, moving it with grace and control that will mesmerize.
Only a small number of spots are available for this class (we need plenty of space in the studio to move the hoops freely), so sign up as soon as you know you are sure you want to join us!
Hoops will be provided - no need to purchase one just for this class! If you have your own, please bring it, but feel free to borrow during class if you want to try a different size.
Class will be held on:
Tuesday, 4/21 - 7:30-9pm
Class will be held at:
Dance Underground
340 15th Ave E,
Seattle, WA 98112

Prerequisites for this series- NONE!
If you have never shuffled before, this is the program for you. Designed with total beginners in mind, we move really slow and break everything down in detail for you to make sure you are able to understand the concepts fully. Many people come to this series with no prior dance background at all and they are very successful, so if you’re feeling nervous to try.. don’t be :)
If you have more shuffle experience than a total beginner, but still don’t feel ready for int/adv classes, this series is great for you too. We always teach more advanced moves/modifications/concepts for those who feel ready for a new challenge!
_______________________________________
Topics covered in this program will include:
-Foundations of Melbourne Shuffle
-Foundations of Cutting Shapes (UK style of shuffling)
-How to transition from move to move in order to create combos and freestyle
-How to make the moves look clean and smooth
-A choreography to put all the skills you learn together into a routine you can show off!

Bring water! The studio does not have a water fountain, and you will need to stay hydrated during class :)
Wear breathable clothing like what you would wear to the gym, and comfortable sneakers with a smooth bottom (not too grippy like running shoes).

Class will be held on:
Wednesday, 5/6 | 7:30-9pm
Wednesday, 5/13 | 7:30-9pm
Wednesday, 5/20 | 7:30-9pm
The location for all classes will be:
Dance Underground
340 15th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112
Prerequisites for this series: You must already know and be comfortable with the foundations (running man, t-step, and charleston)
Ok so you know some moves, you can do the basic, but when it comes to Cutting Shapes, your moves don’t quite look the way you want them to and your flow just doesn’t happen at speed.
Sound about right? This series is for you <3
In 3 weeks this May, you will go on a journey from “My feet don’t move that way” to “Ohhhhh I get it now” - because there ARE underlying principles of Cutting Shapes that will make your flow feel 10x easier once you have it broken down for you.
What we’re focusing on the first 2 weeks:
💫 Expanding your Shapes footwork vocabulary (more words = better dance conversations)
💫 Technique tweaks and drills that help things click & actually make you better
💫 Transitions that make everything look intentional instead of “how did I end up here?”
💫 Confidence building through repetition, interactive games, and a little bit of chaos as your brain shuts down mid combo lol
Then comes the fun part:
Paige will come in to guest instruct the third class, teaching you new combos and flows that combine the skills we went over in the first 2 weeks in a digestible way that you can add to your flow right away.
This is the series that combines work and play, helping you expand in a way that feels tangible while encouraging community connection and fun at the same time. I can’t wait to share the studio with you this month <3
Meet your Instructor:
Paige is a hybrid shuffler, performer, instructor, and member of the Shuffle performance team Main Stage Shufflers. She has a magnetic, joyful presence that has been felt and appreciated on stages across the PNW, and she is excited to bring this energy into the classroom with us.

Welcome to the high-energy, high-cardio, high-vibe world of DnB Step! In this beginner-friendly workshop, we will explore this satisfying, hard-hitting rhythmic style in a way that’s approachable but thorough, so that you leave not only drunk off the vibes, but with the detailed knowledge of how to practice the moves correctly on your own at home.
Lace your shoes up tight and get ready to:
Learn the fundamental steps of the style and how to transition between them
How to make the moves actually look good instead of flailing around at 170 BPM
Make your flow extra spicy with footwork tricks and spins
Move your arms in sync with your feet so you don’t look like the inflatable man at the car wash
Enrich your knowledge of Drum and Bass music, history, and culture
This class will be combos-based, showing you different patterns and transitions you can sprinkle into your own flow to make it yours! These combos will be be accessible for beginners, but also will throw new moves in there for those who have been to DnB class before already.
No experience is necessary for this class! If you’ve never Stepped before, be prepared to SWEAT, and also know that you might not nail all the moves at tempo and that’s ok. You come to class to learn the moves, not to be perfect, so let yourself have fun in the process and know that you can always get them up to speed during your own home practice :)
