March 3-Week House Dance Series w/ Janu

$95.00

Prerequisites: This series is suitable for beginner level dancers. Some prior experience (such as taking the series last month) will help you get more out of it, but it’s not necessary.

Class will be held on:
Saturday, 3/14 - 11am-12:30pm
Saturday, 3/21 - 11am-12:30pm
Saturday, 3/28 - 11am-12:30pm

Class will be held at:
Dance Underground
340 15th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112

House dance is more than steps - it’s a conversation between your body, the music, and the people around you.

This 4-week series is an invitation to slow down, get curious, and develop a deeper understanding of movement through the lens of house dance culture. Rather than memorizing choreography, you’ll explore why movements work, how they connect, and how to make them your own.

This class centers intention, exploration, and respect for the roots of house dance, creating a supportive space to ask questions, play, and expand what dance means to you - both on and off the floor.

If you took the series last month, this month’s series will continue building on the knowledge you already have. If you are brand new, we still welcome you to join this month! But we encourage you to circle back and take the 4-week series when it is offered again in order to go deeper into the foundations.

Who this series is for

This series is a great fit if you:

  • Are a beginner dancer (between 0-3 years of experience)

  • Are curious about house dance and its culture

  • Potentially know some steps, but struggle to connect them fluidly

  • Want to explore the relationship between your body and movement

  • Care more about understanding movement than copying it

  • Enjoy asking questions and feel mentally ready to learn in a physical movement environment

  • Are ready to challenge yourself, grow, and expand creatively

  • Want to have fun while learning in a thoughtful way

What we’ll focus on

Throughout the series, we’ll explore:

  • Fundamental house dance principles like bounce, jack, weight shifts, and rocks

  • Level changes > maybe to the floor? (new this month!)

  • Direction changes, turns, and spins (new this month!)

  • Body awareness and self-expression

  • Cultural etiquette and social literacy within house dance

  • History and cultural context

  • Games, social interaction, and community dynamics

By the end of 3 weeks, you can expect to feel:

Fired up, and excited about the new steps and concepts you can integrate into your dance expression!

A deep sense of gratitude for movement and the ability to learn.

Greater humility and respect for the Black and Brown communities who shaped house dance, with an understanding that dance exists beyond capitalistic motivation

A stronger sense of agency and permission to try, explore, and take risks in your movement

The ability to put moves together in a freestyle-focused way, with a strong foundation that you can continue to build on and expand
