We believe dance is a human right, and no one should be denied access to dance based on finances. We know firsthand the power of community and the freedom a person can gain by learning how to move their bodies. Many of our dancers are here on scholarships because we want everyone to be able to enjoy the magic of movement. Happier people = a better world, in our humble opinion!
We choose to honor our principles and operate this showcase on a donation basis for the same reason - to provide our audience with the opportunity for enrichment, regardless of funds. YCSWU incurs a significant expense producing this event, but to us, the impact is priceless.
Our dancers consistently give us the same feedback:
”This changed my life.”
If you feel able, please consider donating $13 or more to reserve your RSVP for the showcase, and help us change more lives, together <3

feel when listening to my favorite tracks. Shuffling is my way of
connecting with the music I love and sharing that vibe with others.

I'm a 31 y/o PNW-born web dev and artist who picked up dancing right before COVID and never looked back. I originally started with breaking but in the past year have been learning other styles like popping, locking and most importantly took my first Shuffling class with YCSWU 6 months ago!
Dance for me is an outlet for expression and vulnerability that I hope everyone can tap into at some point. When I'm not out in the dance community you can find me reading in a cafe, making 3D art, or learning something cool!

Emma grew up in Los Angeles dancing various styles, with hip-hop becoming her main focus. When she wanted to learn how to dance at EDM festivals, she stumbled across the "You Can Shuffle With Us" Instagram page and thought, why not? Four months later, she's been shuffling ever since. When she's not shuffling, you'll probably still find her dancing—whether that's at parties, raves, or traveling for shows. But she's also constantly diving back into old hobbies and picking up new ones: trying restaurants with friends, sketching, reading manga, weightlifting, and more. More realistically though, you won't find her at all—she'll be off exploring somewhere around the world.

Katie started shuffling 2.5 years ago in an effort to follow the rules after getting told one too many times that skating is not allowed. Who could outlaw dancing? -
I began shuffling around 10 months ago because I saw a few videos and thought it looked cool and quickly got addicted because it’s fun! When she’s not following her ears, wherever the music takes her, she’s following her dog’s nose all over the PNW. Together, they work as a team doing scent work.

How it all went down
8 months planning
35 rehearsals
28 dancers
15 songs choreographed to
8 event sponsors
Countless miles driven
Lot’s of sweat, a couple tears, and even a little blood
All for 1 special night
After years of teaching classes as this community grows and grows,
Seeing their passion become undeniable,
And watching their skills improve to levels that have me screaming hype during their freestyles….
I knew I wanted to create an opportunity for these amazing humans to show off everything they’ve been working so hard on.
Even though most are not in this to become professional dancers, the process of training for a performance provides important benefits to those participating:
Motivation to focus, be disciplined, and GROW
Bonding time with teammates that creates a deeper sense of community
A challenge to step outside of comfort zones and have confidence in their abilities
We’ve had such an unforgettable time preparing for this event. It’s been exciting, heartwarming, humbling at times, and always pushing us to expand.
I’m unbelievably proud of everyone who stepped up to participate, and genuinely committed themselves to the process. The work ethic and excitement they bring only fuels me to do better and create bigger opportunities for them in return.
Love and Light,
-Cisco
