freestyle cypher performed by the show’s choreographers
Shuffling as a dance style is rooted in a culture of freestyle, with an emphasis on finding a flow state within your movements. It’s been great fun to choreograph all the different pieces for this show, but we also wanted to give you a taste of freestyle, and use this moment to show off our authentic, personal styles within shuffling. We hope you enjoy seeing our personalities shine through our individual song choices and unique fusions of movement.
A cypher - also called a dance circle/shuffle circle - is when dancers form a circle and take turns going into the center to dance one at a time. It is an exchange of energy, and “giving hype” is a huge part of what makes cyphers so special. The cypher has roots in many cultures all over the world, and is prevalent in street dance styles and hip hop culture.
